Nokia 5.4, HMD Global aims to enter the budget segment in the middle of the smartphone range. Once again, the company is not competing on the basis of specificity, and has tried to keep things simple. At first glance, you won’t be disappointed with what Nokia 5.4 offers, but it’s a significant improvement over the previous ones. Here is my first device appearance.
Nokia 5.4: Display and design
Nokia 5.4 has a 6.39-inch display with a resolution of 720 × 1560. The lack of a full HD display at this price is astounding, given all the competition it offers. But the screen gets the job done. It came pre-installed on Netflix and I watched a few minutes of the Planet Earth episode and I was not disappointed.
I re-logged into my Disney + Hotstar account and watched the latest episode of WandaVision briefly and the show was well done. However, when I take it out of the mirror I struggle with the bright sunlight and even the high light.
The design of the phone has changed since Nokia 5.3. It does not include a waterdrop style notch but a selfie cutout in the top left corner. It is an acceptable step as it makes use of content better. The bezels are also small and make it easy to hold the phone. The Nokia logo below is still there.The back of the phone is plastic and feels empty when you touch it that I don’t like. Also, the back attracts more fingerprints. I found the Polar Night variant of the device and loved the color as it made the phone look simpler. There is a fingerprint scanner on the back, which does not work well if your finger is slightly sweaty. You find a dedicated Google Assistant button on the left.
Nokia 5.4: Performance
Nokia Games 5.4 processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 662. There are only two phone configurations that offer 64GB of internal storage but two RAM options, 4GB and 6GB. The phone worked well during limited use and there were absolutely no lags when switching between applications. I installed and played one war game royale game Garena Free Fire and it worked well with medium settings.
The warmth of the phone is also a good sign for people who like to play games on their phone regularly. It works on Android 10 out of the box and is ready for Android 11. Free and clean Android experience is definitely a good thing on the phone.
Nokia 5.4: Camera
The Nokia 5.4 camera is as good as the hybrid bag. On the front, it has a 16MP sensor that captures beautiful, detailed selfies. But the portrait mode effects do not look impressive at all.
The phone has a quad camera setup on the back. The main camera is 48MP and I got good results during the day. The 5MP ultrawide camera also offers good performance. However, if your hands are shaking like mine while you are taking pictures, you may need to take pictures before you can get the result you want. There is a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro camera in a round camera module as well. I didn’t like the big camera at all and preferred to take pictures with a big sensor. I will still test the camera in low light conditions, especially while using Dedicated Night Mode
Nokia 5.4 has a 4,000 mAh battery that supports 10W charging. While charging speed may be a problem for many, the phone is expected to last at least a day depending on its usage.
Nokia 5.4: Original features
Nokia 5.4 is another listing company that aims to impress consumers with the pure Android experience. However, Nokia has not provided an update to Android 11 on most of its phones yet. The company has promised at a press conference that it will soon bring an update to Android 11 on its devices, but no date has been set. Without software, Nokia 5.4 may find it difficult to compete with the likes of Realme Narzo 20 Pro, Redmi Note 9 Pro Max and others.
Final Thoughts – Nokia 5.4 as a predecessor to Nokia 5.3, features advanced cameras and processor configurations, providing an amazing experience of working in tech geeks there. 64GB of internal device storage combined with 4GB of RAM, creates an impressive duo to put your hands on. Although the 4,000 mAh battery is a basic offering, compared to others within the same price range but fast charging support will certainly cover you.
